What are you most proud of from your school experience?

Today the relationships I formed with school friends are stronger than ever, as we navigate life side by side.

What skills, knowledge, subjects or people from Carmel helped you in your life or career?

English Literature, Jewish Studies and French.

Tell us about your studies since graduation.

I completed a Bachelor of Arts (Industrial Relations) and Bachelor of Science (Psychology) at UWA, then a Master of International Relations at Macquarie University before completing a Doctor of Philosophy at the UWA Business School.

My PhD looked at the work of the International Labour Organisation in Myanmar. The study relied on data gathered during two trips to Myanmar, where I interviewed Government officials, ambassadors, United Nations officials, political prisoners, trade unions and employers.

I have presented this research at conferences around Australia and am currently working on publishing it in academic journal articles.

听

Can you share your employment history?

I commenced full-time work in the WA public sector in 2007 and worked in various industrial relations roles.

I became Director of Public Sector Labour Relations at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety in 2019 and was brought into the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in 2021 to assist the State Government with its COVID-19 response. I am currently on maternity leave and returning in January.

For the last year, I have been leading the community campaign against a large, 24/7 petrol station proposed for the middle of North Perth town centre and next door to North Perth Primary School. Off the back of this work, I have been elected as a Councillor in the City of Vincent North Ward (representing people in North Perth, Leederville, Mount Hawthorn and Coolbinia).

What do you enjoy most about being a councillor?

It鈥檚 early days but what I enjoy most so far about being a councillor is the opportunity to connect with the community. It鈥檚 been deeply rewarding getting to know residents, businesses and local clubs who want to work together to create positive change. I鈥檓 really grateful for the opportunity.

What are you most proud of achieving in your life so far?

Creating a home with my husband Elliott (OKC 2001) and our twins.

What advice do you have for our current Carmel students who are preparing for their future after graduation?

Your unique perspective and voice have the potential to make a meaningful impact on the world. Don鈥檛 hold back 鈥� share them with confidence.
